A review of a recent recording of these songs by mezzo-soprano Janneke Schaareman and José Luis Sogorb Jover (hornist in Concertgebau Orchestra), appearing in the Netherlands publication Opus Klassiek, described them as follows:

Translation:
“Seitz sets two Holy Sonnets by John Donne for the sober line of voice and horn and succeeds perfectly, by means of a lyricism reminiscent of Britten.”
